New Moon Poster

I don't need to go to heaven anymore. I'm set for life now. All because of this poster.
I have found an analysis of the poster at Twilighters Anonymous.
Here it is, taken from the comments section:

Mackenzie responded:

What I see here - and it’s the crux of the story, really - is a very clear love triangle. Basically, what Summit wants to highlight in this movie is the relationship angle.

Jake’s in the middle, between Bella and Edward, who has his back turned on Bella. Edward WANTS to look over his shoulder at Bella, but he won’t let himself do it. Bella’s holding onto AND peeking over Jake, hopeful, and Jake’s looking over HIS shoulder, at Edward, with a murderous look. It reflects the relationships exactly.

Bella loves Edward, so she looks for him, even if he ‘turns his back’ on her. Meanwhile, she sees Jake as her ’sun’, so she supports herself by holding onto him, unconsciously hurting Jake - giving him hope while not meaning to at all.

Jake is trying to protect Bella; his body is facing her, while his head is turned towards Edward. Basically, he’s protecting and attacking at the same time. (Jake’s favorite way to taunt Edward in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn is recalling how Bella looked when Sam found her in the woods, for Edward to see.)

Edward is in the foreground, hinting at the fact that he may not be physically present during most of the movie, but he certainly will be a focal point. He’s almost-looking over his shoulder - like he wants Bella, but he’s keeping himself away from her for her own safety.

And may I just say that Taylor is so much hawter with short hair? =]

creamy responded:

At first glance I am thinking YES! Then as I oggle more, I see a few things I wish could be changed.

Again, Edward’s hair is too dark. I was hoping for the bronze that we saw in one of the early photos from the film set. I agree Bella has on too much make-up. And her hair is too neat. Neither of these things are at all Bella. Kristen looks great, but she looks like Kristen. Also, yes Jacob should have had long hair. I think that would have been a much better representation of the character. It would have set him even more apart from Edward.

I love the positioning. Edward leaving, Jacob protecting, and gasp! Bella clinging to Jacob, not Edward. They did very well in reflecting the tension. At least this is not a happy, light portrayal.

This one-sheet screams with pain, stress and heart-break. The darkness of it is also spot on. Now, what else are they going to show us? Despite the few changes I mentioned, I am very hopeful.

OK Summit, what’s next?

Kristina responded:

Love it! What I find particularly good is Bella’s hand and how we aren’t certain if she is going to grasp Jacob or if she is reaching for Edward. I hope this is the quickest 6 months ever!

thats a good poster. i didn’t like the twilight one because of the way people were posed but this one actually shows us where the story line is going.

michelle responded:

I like it but……
It should have had Bella behind Edward holding his arm as Jacob stood behind bella with his hand on her shoulder looking menacing towards Edward. This poster conveys the wrong message to me. It doesn’t show the ‘torn’ feeling I get when I read the book and hope to see in the movie.

Heather responded:

I like that Kristen doesn’t look innocent. She ends being the strong hero in New Moon, which is conveyed here. I like that her hand is on Jacob’s arm as if he is holding her up, which he does in the book. And I like the placement of Edward in front and Jacob in the middle. Awesome poster.

TwiMom1 responded:

Love it - though, I’m sorry, this does NOT capture the essence of New Moon but rather Eclipse…throughout Eclipse there was great tension between Jacob and Edward…not so much in New Moon because in the novel Edward was absent most of the time…most of New Moon was Bella trying to cope with the loss of Edward, dealing with Jacob’s new “life” and coming to terms with feelings for both, of which also Eclipse deals with. I would much rather of seen a poster with Edward as more of a ghost image in the background and a more prominent Bella in the front with Jacob behind her and Edward behind them both facing away…after all, that is the basic theme of the book.

calilyfsabeach responded:

I really think they did the best job picking Taylor for Jacob’s part. He is too perfect for words and I secretly wish he would hold onto me that way =P
Edward, I think, should have been more in the background…but I can see how difficult that would have made it to get Jacob’s angry face in there. That is crucial. Bella should have been looking at Edward and I think what they were going for with the makeup is the deep bruises under her eyes from being so depressed but I think they made it look to much like Kristen.
Edward…just perfect.
And I think Jacob’s hair is just fine short…it shows his transformation from before Jacob, to werewolf Jacob. People keep forgetting that.

Overall: 9/10…can’t wait for the clip!!!

PrincessJen responded:

I think it is absolutely beautiful. If I were to change anything, I would make Jacob even taller because he’s much taller than Edward and this poster does not show that.
TwiMom1, I understand what you mean about how the poster really should have emphasized Jacob and Bella and that Edward should have taken a backseat, but this is marketing and Rob Pattinson SELLS. Imagine if they put him as a faded figure in the background? Fans would go bonkers; they might even become alienated to the new movie. The Twilight saga for me personally is about Bella and Edward and while New Moon revolves around Bella and Jacob, it would really push me away if they did not make Edward a big deal as well, because he still is.

Team RCatz responded:

I love the symbolism. There was some thought put into this. As for Bella wearing too much makeup, Ashley Greene said that part of the “new look” for the characters involved some illustrations of how their relationships have grown. What that could mean is that this Bella has had Alice-influence, and now wears a little more makeup to try to keep up with her gorgeous vampy friends. Just like in Twilight, when her wardrobe becomes more feminine after falling for Edward, she’s become a little “darker” and more glamorous after being with the Cullens for a spring and a summer.

WaitingPatiently responded:

I think it shows how Edward appeared to turn his back on Bella and also how that pains him. It also shows Jacob trying to protect Bella from Edward (or more precisely the pain that he has caused) by his clenched fist and his knitted brow. But the look on Bella’s face kind’ve confuses me. (For one thing she does have more makeup than the book Bella would wear I think. Maybe they are making her more glamorous in NM.) But I would have expected to see pain or sadness on her face, since she was pained through about 3/4 of New Moon (Edward left, Jacob got sucked into a gang, Edward about to kill himself, Volturi about to kill all of them). I’m just not sure what emotion I see on her face. It’s hard for me to read.

A superb love story ever. A teenage girl risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire. A densely erotic, twisted take on teen screen romance, Twilight zones out beneath the crushing weight of underage lust intensified and complicated by the excruciating abstention here of unorthodox vampire appetites.
